1996 Luke Bozza Scholarship Winner

Currently studying full time for Masters of Business administration at Melbourne Business School , University of Melbourne, on scholarship. Each year Telstra awards this scholarship to one of its 75,000 employees.

1993-95 Manager, Broadband Data Technologies, Telstra

Responsible for all aspects of the deliver of Broadand Data technology. Managed staff of 12 with direct reports of National Support, Platform Design and Platform Integration. Operational budget of $2.75 million pa.

Project leader of multi disciplinary team, including product, marketing, platform and research staff set up to develop a strategy for the replacement of the FASTPAC product and platform:

• Delivered outcome within the specified time of two months, including full financials, exit strategy, alternative product and platform including full technology assessment. Personally developed detailed financial models for the various exit scenarios and replacements, including cash flow analysis.
• Instigated the technology implementation of the recommendations.

Managed the delivery and testing of new facilities on the FASTPAC product and the introduction of new facilities and equipment into the Network:

• Rapidly introduced frame relay interfaces on the FASTPAC platform to strategically position Telstra with its key customers in a difficult situation. Completed the delivery to schedule in four months, as opposed to the expected lead time of eight, and for a minimal cost (<$50k).
• Introduced the current version of the FASTPAC switching equipment greatly improving network performance by 20% and with a substantial increase in reliability.

Managed the integration of FASTPAC platform with Telecom systems, and introduction and ongoing management of operation support systems:

• Solved problem in FASTPAC charging system, saving in excess of 1 million dollars. Delivered release 2.11 of the charging system, within two months of taking on project, controlling a slip of in excess of six months.
• Formed team to produce version 3.00 of the charging system which has met all customer requirements and improved performance by 6000%.

Managed customer and vendor relationships:

• Instigated and negotiated new support arrangement with supplier and outsource what had previously one my groups prime duties, third level fault support. This has led to the supplier taking on more responsibility for network performance while improving the efficiency of support to both internal and external customers. This re-engineered process has delivered cost savings of around 20% ($2m over three years)
• Improved customer satisfaction ratings to the highest point since launch of the product.

1993 Principal Engineer, National Support, Fast Packet Services (FPS)

Managed the provision of the highest level of technical support for Telecom customers and provided all training, documentation and expertise to operational support groups:

• Managed problems at the platform level, providing interface to operational staff on all technical issues relating to the platform operation. Resolved customer problems and provided special investigation to enhance customer service.
• Achieved a 60% improvement of the customer satisfaction rating .

1991-1993 Senior Engineer, Service and Infrastructure Development, FPS

Coordinated technical issues between Telecom and suppliers, regarding the design and delivery of 2Mbit interfaces (F2) to the Fast Packets Switched Network. Specified and designed aspects of the equipment and management system:

• Recognised the shortcomings of the prototype Management Station and the impact it would have on the F2 product launch. Proposed an enhancement project that would result in an acceptable customer service and convinced the Product and Platform team that it was feasible and cost effective for the business. Lead a project team of 6 in developing and testing the enhancements, delivering the system in 12 weeks. Reduce time to market by six months with a cost saving of $2 million.

Sport Keen bicycle rider, and social runner with a group from FASTPAC. Active member of a Tae Kwon Do club for seven years.

Music Ex-professional musician with 5 years experience. Gained confidence with large groups (over 2000 people) and gained valuable experience co-managing the band.

Television Produced, wrote and hosted a program on engineering for a public TV station, which was transmitted to Melbourne audiences in 1988.
